Saturday of the Thirty-third Week in Ordinary Time
Jesus in today’s gospel shows us just how much the Father wishes to make us participants in his eternal, life-giving love. We were not created for death, and Jesus’ ultimate victory over the Cross proves this. And this was the Father’s intention all along. The one who created us to live has created us to live eternally. “For to him all are alive.” He is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. We can add our name to the list as well.
In the Resurrection, our identity will not be “husband,” “wife,” or any other familial title besides “child” of God. This is not to say that we will not be with those we love. On the contrary, we will be united with them in ways that were once impossible. And our connection will be not only with the ones we knew, but with all those whom the Father loves, one universal family.
As St. Irenaeus said, “the glory of God is the human person fully alive.” Let us pray for his eternal love to enter our hearts and radiate more deeply to all of our brothers and sisters.
