Saturday of the Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Today is the last day of the liturgical year and the readings are a more specific focus of those we meditated on yesterday.

In the first reading we see that the kingdom the Father was given to his Son, made man in Christ, and that it will be given to the Holy People, that is, to the Church. And this is what Christ did by his death, resurrection and ascension.

The implication here is that each and every one of us who are members of Christ’s body, participate now, through the activity of the Holy Spirit, in the Father’s plan of salvation for all. Hope and joy are the effects here and now.

In the Gospel Christ tell us we should be attentive to every manifestation of God’s presence in history, in own lives and in the lives of those about us. To do so we must we must be continuous lens-cleansers, ever at work purifying our vision.

The desire for pleasure and power, however insignificant they may sometimes seem, distorts our focus. All the more reason why prayer and some sacrifice should be part of our daily agenda.

Saturdays are dedicated to our Lady. Lets make our last-of-the-year prayer asking her to help us see our Heavenly Father’s plan as she saw it, and that we might live our lives as she lived hers, open daily to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now.  . . .
