Memorial of The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary

In today’s gospel, Jesus says that “one who swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who is seated on it.” This royal image is quite fitting today when we commemorate the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Surely, we have all seen countless images of Mary with a crown adorning her head. The title of queen for the Blessed Mother has biblical backing. Since the time of King David, the mother of the king was known as the Queen Mother of Israel. Because Jesus is King of Israel (and King of the Universe), it is only fitting to call Mary our Queen.

Mary is our queen in heaven, who knows our King’s heart, who intercedes for her people, who being queen of angels, does not disdain coming down to earth from time to time to make God’s message of love known and felt. Such is our queen’s maternal desire. When we think of heaven, let us not forget that we have an advocate in our blessed queen and mother.
