Thursday of the Twenty-First Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s gospel, Jesus speaks of the “faithful and prudent servant” who is in charge of distributing to the others their food at the proper time. In asking us to emulate this servant, Jesus is essentially asking us to emulate him.
Perhaps our image of Christ is of a man who knows everything, who is able to see everything, and who walks with confidence into the future. But have you ever imagined Christ’s eyes filled with a gentle faith and hope? A man whose eyes reflect a hope-filled fidelity towards his Father and the mission with which he has been instructed. Perhaps this may help us to see Christ as someone who is closer to our human experience, someone who we can emulate.
As we walk towards the future, what do our own eyes reflect? Let us pray that they might reflect the same faith and hope as the eyes of the one who longs to encounter us.
