Monday in the Octave of Easter

Every Easter season we are blessed to hear the wisdom of the book of Acts read in our liturgies. Today we continue with Peter’s great testimony to the Resurrection of Christ. One of the first proclamations of the Holy Spirit through Peter of the Good News of Christ to the world. A line that arises from this speech for our prayer today is: “God raised this Jesus; of this we are all witnesses…and he poured forth the promise of the Holy Spirit that he received from the Father, as you both see and hear.”

Peter places himself as an eyewitness to Christ as being alive and not dead and that he himself (Peter) as a sharer in the Holy Spirit of the Resurrected Christ. At the core of Peter’s testimony is that Peter himself is a living witness to the mysteries of God that he has experienced in Christ. Can we say the same as modern day Christians? If not, where does our living God want to meet us, transform us, and send us out as his witnesses to the reality that God is alive and at work in the world and the Church?

We are Christians are called to be like Peter, to proclaim on a personal level, that we have encountered Christ, received Christ’s spirit, and proclaim by our words and lives that God is real, true, beautiful, alive, and longing for the hearts of the world. Let us pray for the grace of boldness this Easter season to proclaim the mystery of the Resurrected Christ to the world.
