“But who do you say that I am?”
Take time today to allow Jesus to ask you this question: how do you respond?
If we respond like Peter, professing our belief that He is the Son of God, examine your life: do you live as though you believe this? Reflect on the lives of these two towering saints: St. Peter, first leader of the Church, martyred in Rome on a cross upside-down, and St. Paul, dramatically converted to Christ after encountering Him on the road, setting the known world on fire with the Gospel, and beheaded in Rome. These two men believed in Christ, and everything they did bore the fruit of this face: two men, in essence, conquered the world after they, first, were conquered by Christ. You are called to follow after them, and while these saints raise an incredible standard, you have been baptized by the same baptism, and have heard the same Gospel, and Jesus says to you as He said to them: “In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world,” (John 16:33).
