Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter, Apostle
The Feast of the Chair of St. Peter is a celebration of the authority with which the Lord entrusted this apostle. It could be said then that St. Peter’s chair is the place from which he spoke with honesty and wisdom about everything the Lord had done and continued to do for him and for us, his Church.
In the teachings that he would pronounce, would his voice be filled with the living memory of that miraculous catch that changed his life forever? Would his voice be laced with the bitter tears he cried after his betrayal or with the sweet taste of reconciliation one morning by the lakeside? Or perhaps by the very memory of the voice that gave him a name, called him blessed, and told him that his actions would be of consequence on earth and in Heaven.
As we sit and ponder our life with Jesus and when we speak of him, what memories will be present in our voice?
Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.
