Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
“Thus says the wisdom of God:
‘The LORD possessed me, the beginning of his ways,
the forerunner of his prodigies of long ago;
from of old I was poured forth,
at the first, before the earth. […]
then was I beside him as his craftsman,
and I was his delight day by day,
playing before him all the while,
playing on the surface of his earth;
and I found delight in the human race.’” (Proverbs 8:22-23; 30-31)
These words which our Lord inspired in the author of the book of Proverbs contain the two great mysteries of God’s revelation which we celebrate on this solemnity: God reveals Himself to us; and God reveals His delight in us. The reason why we speak about the Trinity is because our good Lord, the one who loves us, the God who created us, has given us the gift of knowing Him. We get to hear these words of our Lord, and of His Spirit of wisdom, speaking of His infinite love before the creation of the universe. To receive such a message from our Lord is a true gift.
The second mystery in this beautiful reading is that this lovable, beautiful, good God takes delight in us. Not only does God allow us a glimpse into His own life, as it were, but He lets us see creation with His eyes. He allows us to know the love with which He looks upon us. Let us thank the Lord for letting us know the thoughts of His Heart this day. Let us cherish the knowledge of Himself that God seeks to share with us, and be open to sharing this message with others.
