Saturday of the Thirty-first Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s gospel, Jesus says, “The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones.” Perhaps, in our own lives, we can think of actions that contradict this statement. That is to say, moments in which we have been very attentive and caring about great matters, while being careless about matters we deem as small and insignificant. Likewise, we may find that sometimes we place a lot of weight on matters that are actually trivial, while disregarding matters of true importance. What Jesus seems to be inviting us to through his words is a life of consistency and coherence in matters great and small, recognizing that the consequences of even the smallest matter can be monumental.
Consider Mary. From the smallness of the Christ child growing in her womb to the greatness of his Cross and Resurrection, she was faithful and trustworthy. May she be our model and guide.
