Saturday of the First Week of Lent

The penitential season of lent has no better climatic accompaniment than the weather in Milwaukee.  It would be hard to imagine, at least for me, recalling the need for conversion of personal shortcomings while sitting next to palm tree and drinking white wine. Of course, God has not blessed everyone with the advantage of spending March in Milwaukee where we all wait in eager anticipation for our three days of spring. For those who are climatically disadvantaged during Lent, as well as those who have the Wisconsin advantage, may I suggest that we take seriously Ignatius’ advice on the eradication of faults. The founder of the Jesuits advises to take things in small steps, to identify one project and give it our full attention. Taking things in small steps provides the best way to move towards success, even for those whose backyard contains either palm trees or snowblowers.
