Tuesday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time

The disciples find themselves in a situation most of us have experienced, forgetting something important, essential for the day or the task at hand. Who hasn’t felt anxiety creeping in, shoulders tightening, hands and legs fidgeting as you try to figure out how to get out of the predicament that your forgetfulness (which can quickly be categorized as carelessness, even selfishness) got you into? And of course, this feeling intensifies when others find out.

Jesus is not at all concerned that the disciples forgot to bring bread for the journey. His concern is with their lack of understanding and their hardness of heart. Jesus is the bread of life. He is the one who provides. He asks them to remember his previous miracles in which he provided in abundance.

Jesus is the one who provides perfectly for each one of us. While we might be forgetful about other things, let us keep this ever-present in our minds and hearts.
